As the 2021 Formula 1 season comes to a close, teams around the paddock have been ramping up in testing and innovation for the new 2022 car.

A concept version of the car was unveiled earlier this year at the British Grand Prix that featured changes in the aerodynamics of the body and low-profile 18-inch wheels that seek to deliver more competitive racing on the track.

According to Jonathan Noble of Autosport, McLaren's Lando Norris is among the first drivers to comment on the challenge of handling the new car as he took to the McLaren simulator to run some tests.

“It’s a very different car to drive. In a way not as nice as this season,” said the young F1 star.

Norris added that McLaren doesn't even have their actual Formula 1 car yet in the Woking-based factory.

“The car we have in the factory, it’s not even a car. It’s a drawing and some paper. I don’t think we will see it for many more months, maybe not until next year in a way.”

“We’ve seen some of the drawings and the designs for next season, but every week, it’s something new and something different, because there’s so many different things with the car”

2-time world champion, Fernando Alonso, also shared his thoughts on what could be one of the most challenging winter breaks in Formula 1 history,

“In terms of adaptation, I don’t think it’s going to be a big difference. It’s just some hard work, or harder than any other winter, because we will have to spend a little bit more time in the simulator together with the team.”
