The New York Giants announced that they are hiring Laura Young as their new director of coaching operations. The news comes as the Giants have been embroiled in the scandal involving former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores since he filed a lawsuit against the NFL and the team.

It is believed to be the first woman that the New York Giants have ever hired on the coaching side of the organization. Young joins head coach Brian Daboll, offensive line coach Bobby Johnson and quarterbacks coach Shea Tierney from the Buffalo Bills.

Last year was Young's 16th season in the NFL. She began her professional career in football with the Baltimore Ravens on the business side of things related to client services. She eventually began working for Rex Ryan as an assistant to the head coach for the New York Jets. When Ryan left the Jets for the Bills, Young followed him to western New York. However, after his departure, she stayed with the organization.

Young spent the last two seasons as one of the team's COVID-19 coordinators.

The move comes amid a mountain of backlash against the organization. On Tuesday, Flores filed a lawsuit against the NFL and its clubs alleging racism and improper hiring practices. The biggest piece of evidence to support his case was a set of text messages between Flores and Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.

A few days prior to Flores' interview with the Giants, Belichick texted Flores congratulating him for landing the job. Belichick later acknowledged that he accidentally texted Flores, instead of Daboll. That led to Flores' belief that his upcoming interview was a sham and the organization had already decided who they were hiring.
