New York Giants sixth-round pick Corey Ballentine is out of the hospital after being shot just hours after getting drafted:

Ballentine was the 180th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft after impressing at the combine. He was out celebrating in Topeka, Kansas when he sustained a gunshot wound to his gluteal muscle. Dwane Simmons, one of his close friends and teammates at Washburn University, tragically died from his gunshot wounds.

Ballentine posted on Twitter thanking everyone for their support while also remembering his friend who was killed in the incident:

Giants coach Pat Shurmur called Ballentine a great kid who suffered a tragic situation, but expects he will be with the team for rookie minicamp starting on Thursday:

“He’s a really bright kid and he’s a great kid. What happened is tragic and unfortunate. I mean, that’s his best friend he was with,” Gettleman said of Ballentine via northjersey.com. “We spoke to him on Sunday. He’s coming along fine. He’ll be here Thursday for the minicamp this weekend.”

Interviews are allowed during rookie minicamp, so there will no doubt be a big media contingent around Ballentine asking questions about what happened. Stay tuned to ClutchPoints for more on this story.
