The New York Giants shocked fans when they drafted Daniel Jones with the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. The fact they drafted him was not the surprise, but where they took him. It was believed that New York was targeting him with the 17th overall pick. Apparently they did not believe he would be there 11 picks later.

Here we are three years later and the Giants might be regretting their decision, despite what they say publicly. Giants CEO John Mara has expressed confidence in Jones recently and went so far as to blame themselves for Jones' lack of progress. But Jones is not looking for the easy way out.

As GiantsWire writer John Fennelly noted, Jones only points the finger at himself.

“I’m certainly the one responsible for how I play and I take that very seriously. I haven’t played well enough. We haven’t won enough games to this point… That’s what I am focused on. And making sure I’m improving as a player as we go through this offseason and into next season, so I am able to put this team in a position to win games. I think that’s my focus.”

Jones is entering the final year of his rookie contract. The Giants can also option him for a fifth year on the cheap. But Jones' lack of progress through his first three seasons leaves doubt as to whether that's the direction the new regime would want to go. New general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll have no ties to Jones. So, it will be up to the Giants quarterback to prove he is worthy of a new deal.
