The New York Giants have received major backlash over the last week for their benching of veteran quarterback Eli Manning. However, it all happened to no avail after the team announced the firing of head coach Ben McAdoo.

While it is difficult to determine whether or not Manning's benching was the final straw, it goes without saying that the 2017 NFL season was nothing short of a disaster for the Giants. Regardless, the two-time Super Bowl champ said during an interview with Mike Francesa on WFAN that he wants to finish out the year as starting quarterback:

“I do not know for certain if I'm starting. I hope I am,” Manning said. “I did speak with Coach Spags for a little bit, told him I wanted to be starting QB, be out there and win these four games. He said he appreciated that and was going to talk with the offensive guys, and I hope I'm out there against the Dallas Cowboys.”

Since McAdoo's firing, offensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo has been named interim head coach. That said, it remains to be seen whether Spagnuolo wants to proceed with the ‘rebuild' or merely let Manning assume his original role.

Regardless of how things play out, there could be some serious changes looming in New York. Manning has been adamant about playing beyond this year, however, given the state of the franchise, both sides could be inclined to go their separate ways.
