The New York Giants have gotten a better look at some of their new players in minicamp. Unfortunately, a familiar face in tight end Evan Engram has been unable to take part.

Engram's absence has raised plenty of speculation regarding his current health. According to Ryan Dunleavy of NJ.com, he ensures that it is the team's decision to have him sit out.

“Not my choice,” Engram said Saturday. “One hundred percent.”

Engram added that he thinks the Giants are only taking a cautious approach with his health for the 2019 NFL season.

“I’m good,” Engram said. “I’m just being smart. I don’t really need anything crazy right now. I’m still just trying to be healthy for the summer and be ready for camp.”

The decision to have Engram sit out of minicamp is certainly a surprise considering he had taken part in organized team activities. Recent reports even suggest that his injury-plagued 2018 campaign could be a cause for his recent absence. Regardless, it is encouraging to see that his status for next season does not appear to be in jeopardy.

Engram has become an integral part of the offense since his arrival in 2017. He emerged as a vital weapon in the passing game and enjoyed a strong rookie campaign. Unfortunately, he was unable to follow it up last season after finishing with just 45 receptions for 577 yards and three touchdowns in 10 games while dealing with injuries.

Regardless, the Giants will be relying heavily on Engram moving forward. The departure of wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. this offseason will undoubtedly lead to an increased volume of targets. This could be why the team is doing what it can to ensure his health for the 2019 campaign.
