When the New York Giants and New York Jets square off in Friday's preseason tilt, Giants safety Landon Collins will be ready to make life difficult for Jets rookie quarterback Sam Darnold. However, while Collins is looking to “feast” on the rookie, he also admits Darnold is set to have a “fantastic” career, according to Owen O'Brien of Newsday.

“He’s a rookie. We feast on rookies sometimes,” the Giants safety said after Wednesday’s practice (the Giants had no media access Thursday). “It’s always an exciting game. To see him play, he’s going to have a fantastic career once he gets it going, and . . . I know he’s going to do a great job at the Jets, but you’re playing against a good defense, and we’re going to have fun with it.”

Collins expects to play the first three quarters of Friday's game, the third preseason contest for both teams. Darnold will get his second start after Todd Bowles went with the rookie to begin last week's game against the Washington Redskins.

The 2018 No. 3 overall pick has looked solid in preseason, completing 21 of 29 passes for 158 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Bowles hasn't yet decided on a Week 1 starter, but the rookie is making his case and will have another great opportunity against the Giants. Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater are also in the fold, though there have been Bridgewater trade rumors.

As for Collins and the Giants, they're coming off a victory over the Detroit Lions and are trying to bounce back from a disappointing 3-13 campaign. Collins has been to two consecutive Pro Bowls and again figures to be a key component of the team's defense.
