New York Giants defensive lineman Leonard Williams spent the first four-and-a-half years of his career with the New York Jets, one-and-a-half of those coming as a teammate of Sam Darnold.

Now, after being traded to the Giants a couple of weeks ago, Williams will have to take on the Jets as an opponent this Sunday, and he is ready to take it to his former quarterback:

“That’s funny because I randomly thought in my head, what if I beat somebody and go to tackle Sam and I let up because I can’t hit him,” Williams said when he was asked about potentially sacking Darnold, according to Charles McDonald of The New York Daily News. “But no, that won’t happen, though. I’ll finally get to tackle him, that’s going to be fun. It’s going to be great.”

Williams said he has “no extra motivation” to beat the Jets and that he is merely trying to help out his new team.

The 25-year-old made his Giants debut against the Dallas Cowboys this past Monday, logging three tackles. On the season overall, he has totaled 23 tackles.

Williams, who played his collegiate football at the University of Southern California, was originally selected by the Jets with the sixth overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft.

His Gang Green career got off to a great start, as he impressed with 63 tackles and three sacks during his rookie campaign followed by a 2016 season in which he posted 68 tackles, seven sacks and a couple of forced fumbles en route to the Pro Bowl.

However, since then, Williams has been a massive disappointment, tallying just seven sacks in total since 2017.
