Washington Redskins free agent Preston Smith has interest from a few different teams, but he's generated the most interest from the NY Giants.

According to USA Today, Big Blue is reported to have a “significant interest” in Smith. The New York Giants are in desperate need of a few linebackers this offseason, and Smith is definitely considered a good option by the Giants' brass.

A second-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, Smith filled in as a reserve as a rookie, but propelled himself into the starting job by recording 8.0 sacks in his first year.

From 2016-2018, the 6-foot-6, 256-pound Smith started all 48 games for the Redskins, recording 132 tackles, 13 stuffs, 16.5 sacks, nine passes defensed and four interceptions.

From USA Today:

“A three-year starter with the Washington Redskins, Smith is likely to receive varied interest in free agency. And to no surprise, the Giants are already expressing a “significant interest,” reports Matt Lombardo of NJ Advance Media.”

In 2018, Smith posted a career-high grade of 76.9 courtesy of Pro Football Focus, including a 73.2 run-defense grade and 68.4 pass-rush grade. He also logged 53 total pressures and 27 defensive stops.

Although Preston Smith is not exclusive to rushing the passer, he is a quality all-around linebacker with plenty of starting experience.

Preston Smith played college football at Mississippi State University, and was drafted by the Redskins in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

Smith had a strong performance in the 2017 win against the Arizona Cardinals recording a sack, his second career interception, and a fumble recovery caused by Anthony Lanier.
