The era of New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones got off to a stellar start with a win in Week 3. It is an outcome that could have been much different had they decided to pursue a different quarterback in the 2019 NFL Draft.

The Washington Redskins also secured their potential franchise quarterback in Dwayne Haskins in the draft. According to Dan Benton of the Giants Wire, Shurmur admits that the Giants were very high on Haskins.

“We felt like Daniel was the guy for us. We really, really liked Dwayne Haskins and what he had done in college. We had a very, very high opinion of him, and we spent a lot of time on him. We chose Daniel, but that doesn’t mean that we didn’t think very, very highly of Dwayne Haskins,” Shurmur said.

It was no secret that the Giants were looking to bring in a successor to quarterback Eli Manning in this year's draft. As a result, it makes sense that Shurmur and the front office would be doing their due diligence on all of the top prospects. Fortunately, New York has seemingly managed to make the right decision.

Jones managed to secure the Giants' first win of the 2019 NFL season in his very first start. His ability to make plays with his arms and his legs has helped add some juice to this offense. Meanwhile, Haskins continues to serve as the backup in Washington. Although there has been talk of him making his NFL debut in the near future, it is safe to say that Jones has set the bar quite high for this year's rookie quarterbacks.
