The New York Giants drafted Daniel Jones but Pat Shurmur has made it clear that Eli Manning is the starting quarterback heading into this season.

The Giants held their first organized team activity of the season on Monday and Manning was the one to receive all the first team reps. Shurmur made it clear that will continue while Jones will get second and third team work going forward.

“At the quarterback position, we have a starter in Eli and we have guys behind him, specifically Daniel Jones, who need to do everything they can to be ready to play Week One. That’s where we’re at,” Shurmur said, via Tom Rock of Newsday.

Alex Tanney and Kyle Lauletta are the other quarterbacks on the roster and they are getting whatever is left over after Jones and Manning get their snaps.

Giants offensive coordinator Mike Shula recently said that he thinks Jones would be ready to be the week one starter if that's what was needed which seem to ignite the quarterback controversy again.

Shurmer is having none of that though and wants it to be clear that this is still Manning's team to lead. The big question surrounding the Giants is just how much leash is Manning going to have.

Do they plan on sticking with Manning all season no matter what? Or will they make a quarterback change if they can Jones is ready and Manning struggles to start the season.

That will be a question that will be answered later but week one it's Manning who will lead the Giants onto the field.
