Despite a frankly impressive (real) professional debut for rookie quarterback Daniel Jones, New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur told reporters on Monday that he did not regret waiting until Week 3 of the 2019 NFL season to switch from veteran Eli Manning to the new kid.

Per Newsday's Tom Rock on Twitter, the reporter asked Coach Shurmur “if he has any regrets about not making the QB switch sooner than he did.” Shurmur answered with a resounding “No. Nope. Not at all.”

Shurmur made the curious choice of inserting Jones as the starter over their longtime signal-caller Manning for the Giants' Week 3 matchup with Tampa Bay Buccaneers after it looked like the two-time Super Bowl MVP would start for the remainder of 2019 and the rookie Jones would observe from the sidelines. After falling into an 0-2 pit, though, Shurmur switched it up and handed the reins to the offense to the 22-year-old.

The Giants selected Jones out of Duke University with the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft last April, prompting rampant outrage from the fanbase. Nonetheless, fans of the G-Men consider themselves quite lucky on Monday after yesterday's great display of talent by Jones, who led New York to their first victory of the season.

After Jones' lone possession in Week 1 backing up Manning, the rookie made a solid starting impression on Sunday, throwing 23/36 for 336 yards and two receiving touchdowns—plus two rushing TD's, the second one scored brought the Giants over the top on the Bucs, who missed a last-second field goal to clinch the win for New York.

Not releasing Manning prior to the season, however, cost the Giants $23 million due to roster bonuses for the vet.
