Following a disappointing 2017 season, there was much chatter surrounding the New York Giants concerning the long-term future of the franchise. Much of this centered on quarterback Eli Manning, whose porous play was a major of the team's shortcomings on the field last year.

However, the team has elected to still build the roster around Manning for at least the 2018 campaign. According to Tom Rock of Newsday, former Giants great quarterback Phil Simms believes that the team has gone in the direction of trying to win this upcoming season.

“They’ve made it abundantly clear from the word go, as soon as this past season ended, what they’re going to try to do,” he said on Tuesday at the BTIG Charity Day in Manhattan. “Keep the team together, fix it up a little, let Eli [Manning] be the quarterback, and try to win this year. This is not ‘we drafted Saquon [Barkley] to win and get in the playoffs in three years.’ It’s about this year. They put a lot of pressure on themselves. I understand what they’re doing.”

New York made that abundantly clear by deciding to pass on taking a quarterback with their second overall pick in this year's draft and taking former Penn State running back Saquon Barkley with the selection. The front office and coaching staff has also continued to speak quite highly of Manning heading into his 15th year in the league.

The team has also brought aboard some offensive line help with the addition of left tackle Nate Solder to help provide more stability for Manning to operate behind. New York has assembled a roster has a short-term window to succeed on the field with their quarterback play being the only true question mark.

It is all on the table for Manning to prove that he can lead the Giants to another playoff appearance next season with a revamped roster around him. The organization has a strong belief he can accomplish that feat, it's just a matter of him proving it on the field next season.
