There's tons of controversy about the decline of New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning, as he's simply no longer an elite player. Manning may be a two-time Super Bowl MVP, but father time is undefeated. The Giants dropped to 1-5 after an embarrassing 34-13 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 6. They have dynamic, young weapons in Saquon Barkley and Odell Beckham Jr., but the team just isn't using them right. Beckham Jr. can't get the ball down the field, and Barkley isn't getting the touches most think he should get. Former Giants quarterback Phil Simms says Manning doesn't have “big time” ability anymore.

“As a big-time starting quarterback? Yes. OK, when you phrase it that way, as a big-time starter he is [done],” Simms said on a Sirius XM Radio show. “Here’s how I look at it. I’ve said it many times during the offseason. The Giants built this team for this year for Eli Manning to have success. That’s what they did. They re-did basically the whole offensive line. They’ve signed Odell Beckham, Jr. They bring in an offensive coach, the defensive coach. Everything was there.”

Eli Manning is 37-years-old. His can still play in the NFL, but his prime is clearly long gone. 14 years in the NFL is an impressive feat, but year 15 is looking like a struggle.

“They draft Saquon Barkley, which is a great deal. We saw the kid can be great, we know that. So it’s all set up. Sterling Shepard, a good second receiver. Evan Engram, we know he’s hurt, but it’s all there because we want the quarterback to do well, and it’s not working out,” Simms continued.

The Giants have a great player in Barkley, but many think the team should pursue a different quarterback to capitalize on the abilities of their young stars. Nevertheless, they'll probably finish out this season at the bottom of the NFC East. Major moves may be in order for 2019.
