New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley is well aware of the role his father has played thus far in his successful football career.

Barkley had an incredible first season in the NFL, as he was named Offensive Rookie of the Year after putting together lots of awesome performances.

However, had he not received some advice from his dad early in his career, he may not have had an opportunity to showcase his skills in the league.

And Barkley reflected on the meaning behind Father's Day and what that early advice meant to him.

From Dan Duggan of The Athletic:

“The biggest thing I took from my dad growing up would be ‘Never quit,’” Barkley said. “Once you quit one thing in life, you’re going to be a quitter for the rest of your life. I had a time in my life when I thought about quitting football and that advice he gave me helped me tremendously. It helped me become the person I am today and have my mindset and why I compete every single day. I don’t want to give up and I don’t want to quit. Anything is possible in my life. I can achieve anything, whether I want to be a football player or I want to be an analyst or I want to be a successful businessman. All those things and all those goals I set for myself, I know that they don’t just happen in the blink of an eye. It takes a lot of work. All of that was instilled to me from my parents and especially my father.”

With a mindset like that, it's easy to understand how Barkley has transformed himself into an elite running back for the Giants.

Barkley should continue to improve, and that's going to make things even more difficult on opposing defenses.
