When Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals tipped off on Monday night, fans were surprised to see Manu Ginobili starting for the San Antonio Spurs. With the team down 0-3 against the Golden State Warriors, it was no secret that it could be the last time the Argentinian international plays in the NBA.

When asked if that was the reason why he opted to insert Ginobili in the starting unit, Gregg Popovich shared that it was out of respect for him. He understands what the veteran shooting guard has brought to the franchise and he wanted to honor him by giving the opportunity to be a starter in possibly his final professional game.

The two won four championships together and Popovich helped him become the player that he was during his stellar career. Although Ginobili said he still needs three to four weeks before coming out with his retirement decision, the 68-year-old treated Game 4 as his last, and gave his long-time soldier the fitting ending he deserves.

It remains to be seen if he'll indeed opt to hang his sneakers for good, but one thing that's certain at this point is the Spurs will have a very difficult time replacing him, especially given the relationship he has with his mentor and other members of the organization.
