Memphis Grizzlies superstar Ja Morant has already been ruled out of what could be a season-defining Game 5 matchup against the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night. Even if the Grizzlies survive Game 5, the stark reality is that Morant could actually be done for the season.

Memphis head coach Taylor Jenkins has provided a key update on Morant's controversial knee injury. It's not exactly an optimistic update from a short-term perspective but it's definitely a positive if you look at the big picture (h/t Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN):

Taylor Jenkins says from everything he is hearing, Ja Morant won’t require surgery for his right knee.

The Grizzlies have dodged a major bullet here. Going under the knife is never a good option and it's great to hear that Morant won't have to undergo a procedure to repair the bone bruise on his knee.

Be that as it may, things are still looking grim for the Grizzlies and their season. Battling Stephen Curry and Co. with Morant in the mix is troublesome enough, but for Memphis to come back from a 3-1 deficit without their superstar point guard makes for an undeniably gargantuan task.
