Memphis Grizzlies superstar Ja Morant took some major strides this season, developing into an all-world talent right before our eyes. Year 3 has featured quite the step forward for Morant, who made huge leaps in terms of his overall scoring output, while also improving as a shooter overall. Morant was rewarded for the developments he displayed in his game this season, taking home the Kia NBA Most Improved Player award, per NBAPR.

It's a fully deserved accolade for Morant. After averaging 19.1 points, 7.4 assists, and 4.0 rebounds last season, while shooting 44.9% from the field, the former No. 2 overall pick exploded in 2021-22. This season, the Grizzlies star put up 27.4 points per game, alongside 6.7 assists and 5.7 rebounds. His shooting numbers improved dramatically, too, with the 22-year-old posting a 49.3% field goal percentage on the year. Morant also improved his 3-point shooting from 30.3% last season to 34.4% in 2021-22.

The Grizzlies look like a brand new team amid the emergence of Morant as a full-fledged NBA superstar. The team shocked the league and grabbed the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference, with Morant acting as the catalyst for their success. Despite missing 25 games this season, his impact on the floor was undeniable, even if the Grizzlies managed to succeed while he was on the sideline.

After making his first All-Star Game this season, Morant is further adding to his list of early career accomplishments with his Most Improved Player nod. For now, he'll be focused on getting past the Timberwolves and reaching the second round of the NBA Playoffs.

Morant won the award over the other two finalists, Cleveland Cavaliers star Darius Garland and San Antonio Spurs point guard Dejounte Murray, both of whom also made their first-ever All-Star appearances this season.
