Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant had a solid outing in their February 10 win against the Charlotte Hornets, 130-114. He finished the game with 15 points, three boards, 11 assists, and a steal. Despite his line, he is not resting on his laurels.

During a post-game workout, he tweeted,“gotta be better simple.”

Morant is seen working on his outside jumper. Through 12 games this season, he has only been shooting 28.2% from deep. While he is best known for his athletic finishes to the rim, he shot a higher percentage last year.

The Grizzlies have been battered with injuries and health and safety protocols this year. Key players, such as Morant, Jonas Valančiūnas, Jaren Jackson, Jr., and Brandon Clarke have all missed playing time. It's impressive that Memphis still has a 10-10 record, which is good for the ninth spot in the Western Conference. This was their same, exact spot last season when they just missed out on the playoffs – albeit after losing to the Blazers in the NBA bubble.

The postseason was a foregone conclusion for Memphis during their “Grit and Grind” phase in the earlier 2010s. Led by the likes of Marc Gasol and Mike Conley, the Grizzlies had a stifling defense and a strong inside game. Although they were never championship contenders, they were still a team that higher seeds did not want to face.

Morant accelerated the rebuild and even won the 2019-2020 Rookie of the Year. They are once again a relevant franchise with a bright future. When the Grizzlies are playing at full strength, they cannot be taken lightly, but that's been the question mark thus far.  But with the collection of young talent at Memphis' disposal, playoff basketball can be a regular thing once again for the Grizzlies.
