Highly-acclaimed NBA draft prospect R.J. Barrett has visited the Memphis Grizzlies.

The New York Post's Marc Berman reported on the development on June 9.

While R.J. Barrett will work out with the (New York) Knicks on Monday in Tarrytown, the former Duke swingman made a pit stop in Memphis on Sunday to meet with Grizzlies officials, according to an NBA source. Barrett only interviewed and did not work out.

The Grizzlies have the second pick in the June 20 draft and last month ESPN reported they had zeroed in on Murray State point guard Ja Morant, leaving Barrett for the Knicks.

However, Morant underwent arthroscopic knee surgery two weeks ago amid a report the club had softened on him.

If the Grizzlies have softened their stance on Morant, it wouldn't be hard to imagine R.J. Barrett playing in Memphis next season. The Grizzlies stumbled to a 33-win campaign in 2018-19. While Barrett alone is no guarantee of a playoff spot next season, he'll become one of Memphis' building blocks.

At this point, it's a foregone conclusion the New Orleans Pelicans will make Zion Williamson the first overall pick of the 2019 NBA Draft on June 20. After that, it's a virtual toss-up between Barrett and Morant.

Barrett is one of the few prospects who are tailor-made for the NBA game. No less than former Duke Blue Devils assistant coach Jeff Capel said this. It's hard to argue with him regarding that matter. Barrett should enjoy a prosperous NBA career for years to come.
