After hearing Tony Allen’s comments about the origin of the Memphis Grizzlies’ “Grit and Grind” mantra, Rudy Gay took exception to it and did not appreciate what his former teammate had to say.

The newly-acquired San Antonio Spurs forward fired back at Allen when he took to his Twitter account and made it known that he was not a fan of his statement. He included a snippet of the now-controversial comment and gave his take on it in his post.

It can be recalled that Allen made a lot of headlines recently when he admitted that he was very upset at Gay following a game versus the Oklahoma City Thunder back in 2011, as he had to step up and fill in the void left by him. They ended up winning the match, and during his post game interview, he cited having a lot of grit and grind, which helped them come out with the victory on the night, and thus, has started the description for their style of play.

While it’s worth noting that Allen mentioned as well that he has forgiven him for not seeing action that night, Gay still made sure he sent a clear message to him that he's not take things lightly. Now, it remains to be seen if the three-time All Defensive First Team member will respond to him after his tweet or not. It’s definitely something worth keeping an eye on, as the recent development on the situation could be a start of a fiery back-and-forth between the two.
