As the Cleveland Guardians complete their rebranding and transition away from the Cleveland Indians of the past, a fresh trailer that heralded the beginning of a new era for Cleveland baseball was recently announced. The trailer was tweeted by the official Cleveland Guardians account:

Faced with a plethora of hurdles when it came to the name change from the Cleveland Indians to the Cleveland Guardians—such as a legal dispute with a local Cleveland roller derby team that shares the same moniker—the Guardians name will finally take effect in the 2022 MLB season  However, as the team name has officially been finalized, Guardians merchandise and the Guardians name will be used in all official capacities leading up to next season. As reported by Brendan Gulick of Sports Illustrated:

“The team announced this afternoon that they are officially changing the name on Friday, November 19. The team shop will open at 9:00 a.m. with new merchandise available for purchase.”

As a new age dawns on the Guardians, one can only hope for a rejuvenation within the Guardians team as well, as they had a fairly mediocre 80-82 season in 2021. Whether or not the new team name will mean anything to the team's performance moving forward, it is good to hear that one of the league's longest standing issues has finally been put to rest.
