The North Carolina basketball team had a big year this past season as they won the ACC regular season championship and they made it to the NCAA Tournament as a one seed. The Tar Heels ended up losing in the Sweet 16, but it was a still a good year and the future looks bright. Things are looking even better now as RJ Davis announced on Wednesday morning that he will be returning to North Carolina for another season.
RJ Davis announced his return to the North Carolina basketball team with a video that he posted on Instagram, and he channeled Michael Jordan in the post.
This is huge news for the North Carolina basketball team. The Tar Heels already looked poised for success next season before this news, but getting a veteran like RJ Davis back for a fifth year should go a long way. He has helped this team win a lot of basketball games, and there is likely going to be a lot more of that next season.
Davis started his North Carolina career back in 2020 and he was a contributor from the start for the Tar Heels. He ended up averaging over eight PPG in his freshman season and he was averaging over 22 minutes per game. It didn't take long for Davis to show that he could excel at the college level, and he had a good freshman campaign.
Like a lot of good college basketball players, Davis took a big leap from his freshman season to sophomore season. He started to earn more playing time, and he was scoring more points as well as he ended up averaging over 13 PPG while averaging over 33 minutes per game.
Davis' numbers continued to improve into his junior season as well as he ended up averaging over 16 PPG that season and he was up to around 35 minutes per game. As an upperclassman, Davis was a leader of the North Carolina basketball team and he was one of their best players. When he decided to come back for his senior season, expectations for him went through the roof.

Senior year was a big one for RJ Davis
There was a trend in those first three seasons for RJ Davis with North Carolina basketball. His numbers got better every season. He continued to improve, and that trend continued in his senior year as well. He averaged just under 35 minutes per game last year, and he ended up averaging over 21 PPG. Now, he is coming back for a fifth season, and it should be a big one for him.
Davis has accomplished a lot during his time at North Carolina, both personally and with the Tar Heels as a whole. They have won the ACC, but one thing that Davis is still hungry for is a national championship. North Carolina has been close in recent years and they were clearly one of the best teams in college basketball this past this season. Next year, Davis and the Tar Heels are coming for it all.
North Carolina is very fortunate to be getting one of their stars back for a fifth season. RJ Davis is going to be one of the best players in the country yet again next season.
