In recent years, Dennis Schroder was looked upon as a potential franchise centerpiece for the Atlanta Hawks. But with the team snagging Oklahoma Sooners star Trae Young in the draft, the Hawks have gone in another direction.

Hawks fans are hoping Young can take the NBA by storm, just like his basketball idol, Steve Nash, did back in the day.

For starters, the word “nice” is an understatement when it comes to describing how Nash's superb playmaking skills catapulted him up the list of the greatest point guards to ever play in the NBA. Nash ended his career with averages of 14.3 points, 8.5 assists, and an excellent 42.8 percent from beyond the arc.

Nash is a terrific player to emulate, and Young's style of play also has people comparing his game to Stephen Curry. The prized rookie has been known to chuck up shots way beyond the arc, something that Curry has been very successful with in his career. Young had an incredible freshman season with the Sooners, averaging 27.4 points and 8.7 assists to become the first player in NCAA history to lead the country in both points and assists per game.

However, Young has yet to prove himself in the league. His mediocre play in the recently concluded Summer League has left questions about his ability to be an effective point guard in the pro ranks. He will have his work cut out for him on a bad Hawks team, but that also means he will have plenty of opportunities.
