Miami Heat forward Derrick Jones Jr. has announced that he will participate in this season's Slam Dunk Contest, according to a report from Greg Leif Sylvander of Miami Heat Beat.

This will be Jones' second time participating, but first as a member of the Heat. He made it to the final round in 2017, when he was a member of the Phoenix Suns. He was slated to participate last year but had to withdraw due to a knee injury.

Jones Jr. has recorded some impressive dunks over the course of his career with the Heat. At 6-foot-6, he has the size to go up for alley-oops, or simply throw it down on his own. He'll be met with some fairly stiff competition at this year's Slam Dunk Contest, however. According to several reports, other great dunkers like Dwight Howard and possibly even Ja Morant are planning to participate.

Jones has made 22 appearances with the Heat this season, racking up averages of 8.6 points on 48.6 percent shooting from the field (22.6 percent from beyond the arc), 3.9 rebounds and 1.0 assist in 24.3 minutes per game.

The Heat are off to a nice start to this season, as their 26-10 overall record can attest. They'll be back in action on Wednesday night, when they'll face off against the Indiana Pacers inside Bankers Life Fieldhouse at 7:00 p.m. ET.

This season's All-Star festivities are slated to kick off on Friday, Feb. 14, and run through Sunday, Feb. 16 at the United Center in Chicago. We should find out in the coming weeks who else decides to join in on the Slam Dunk Contest. There are plenty of great candidates, so no matter who participates, it should be an exciting field.

Until then, have a look at some of Jones' most impressive dunks from last season with the Heat:
