Dion Waiters is getting closer to making his season debut for the Miami Heat after undergoing ankle surgery.

While Waiters was ruled out of Sunday's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, it might not take long before he returns to action. According Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel, the 27-year-old guard said that he is ready to make his comeback for Miami.

Waiters recently worked out with the Heat G League affiliate Sioux Falls Skyforce to get some practice time. Winderman added that the former Syracuse standout claimed that he did not miss a shot in Sioux Falls.

Waiters has not played for more than a year after deciding to go under the knife to treat his ailing ankle. The 2012 fourth overall pick played through a hurting ankle early in the 2017-18 NBA season. He managed to play 30 games, where he averaged 14.3 points and 3.8 assists.

The six-year veteran told Rohan Nadkarni of Sports Illustrated that he wanted to play though his hurting ankle but an awkward fall in a game against the Dallas Mavericks doomed his season. He sought second opinion and eventually decided to undergo surgery, which ended his season.

Despite missing most of last season, Waiters is not lacking confidence like how he has been since he was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers. The 6-foot-4 guard insisted that he is ready to prove his doubters wrong, confidently saying that he is better than most of the players in the league today.

“I know I’m better than a lot of these guys in the [expletive] league,” said Waiters, who averaged 13.3 points on 41.2 percent shooting in his first six seasons in the NBA. “I only gave y’all a taste. I know I can do more.”
