The Miami Heat reportedly want to trade Dion Waiters and/or James Johnson this summer, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

The Heat are actively trying to free up cap space so they can be players in the free agent market.

NBA officials who spoke to the Heat say Miami remains intent on trying to trade one of a few contracts with multiple years remaining, with James Johnson and Dion Waiters considered available on the trade market.

Waiters has two years left on his deal with the Heat. The shooting guard will make $12,100,000 next season and $12,650,000 in 2020-21. Johnson, meanwhile, will earn $15,129,400 in 2019-20 and has a player option worth $15,827,100 for 2020-21.

Waiters averaged 12.0 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists this season. He shot 41.4 percent from the field, 37.7 percent from beyond the arc and 50.0 percent from the free-throw line. Waiters played in 44 games.

Johnson put up 7.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists. The 32-year-old swingman shot 43.3 percent overall and 33.6 percent from the 3-point line. Johnson appeared in 55 games.

The Heat missed the playoffs this season. It's a new era in South Beach, as Dwyane Wade retired from the NBA. Miami is looking build its team around Justise Winslow, Josh Richardson and Bam Adebayo. Heat president Pat Riley will try and improve the roster through free agency and trades.
