Hideo Kojima, famed director of Metal Gear Solid, Death Stranding, and Zone of the Enders, almost made a game similar to The Boys.

A group of detectives going against a group of corrupt superheroes. That's the elevator pitch for a project that Hideo Kojima almost worked on. But that project is now dead, thanks to the success of Amazon's hit series The Boys, which is now in its third season.

Sharing on a tweet, as he is wont to do, Kojima reveals: “I watched a few episodes that were delivered at the time when I was about to start a project that I had been warming up for a long time, and put it on hold because the concept was similar (different settings and tricks).”

Kojima further shared that he would have wanted Mads Mikkelsen, who played the antagonist Cliff in Death Stranding, to take on the lead role in the game. Whether or not the lead here would be in the form of the detective or of the lead villain (just like Homelander), we would never know now, but I personally think Mads would have worked either way.

While this project will no longer push through, The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke encouraged Kojima instead to make a game based on The Boys. However, we would still have preferred an original piece by Hideo Kojima instead of a game adaptation of any existing media. Kojima hasn't done a lot of that so we're not sure about it. Besides, he only watched three episodes of the series, so we also don't think he'd be the best person to ask for an adaptation.
