According to an article published on Tuesday by Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders, the Charlotte Hornets are rumored to be trying to move one of their players in hopes of dumping a salary. The two top candidates on their roster to be traded are 30-year-old small forward Nicolas Batum or the 2012 NBA Draft's second overall pick in small forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.

For the 2017-18 NBA season, Batum will earn a whopping base salary of $22,434,783 and Kidd-Gilchrist is still owed $39,000,000 over the next three years. The big question for Charlotte is what else would they be willing to package into the deal in order to get rid of some cap space?

As written by Kyler, it is unclear as to whether the team would be willing to trade seven-footer Frank Kaminsky as part of a deal. Kaminsky, who is coming off arguably his best game this season, had 24 points on 10-of-13 shooting in Monday night's 109-91 win over the New York Knicks.

“If the Hornets don’t want to find themselves in the same spot the Pacers were with Paul George, last season, they may have to do something,” Kyler said.

Heading into tonight's contest against the Toronto Raptors, the Hornets (11-19) are still currently five games back of the Knicks for the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference playoff race. The window for success is closing for Charlotte, as star point guard Kemba Walker is slated to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2018-19 season.
