Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone has set an impossible goal for Blake Bortles this season.

Bortles had his best season protecting the pigskin last year, recording a career-low 16 turnovers, 13 of which were interceptions. This year, Marrone wants to see unprecedented numbers from his quarterback, via Kevin Patra of NFL.com.

“Zero turnovers,” Marrone said on earlier this week when asked what he wants to see most from Bortles, via The Florida Times-Union. “I mean really, and I say that with anyone on our team that touches the football. That's the one thing that is the biggest cause of winning and losing games. I think that we talk about ball security and that's not just for a quarterback, but for our receivers, our tight ends, running backs, all the time. When you turn the ball over, it's hard to win football games.”

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady appeared in 12 games in the 2016 NFL season, throwing only two interceptions while connecting on 28 touchdown passes. They went on to make a historic comeback in the Super Bowl to beat the Atlanta Falcons that season. Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers holds the NFL record for lowest interception per pass rate at 1.6 percent. He has never thrown less than five interceptions in a season since becoming a starter.

Marrone went on to emphasize that turnovers make or break a game more than touchdown passes will. He remained steadfast by his goal for Bortles this season. With their top receiver Marqise Lee out for the season with a knee injury, Marrone's goal will be a pipe dream.
