The Jacksonville Jaguars were forced to begin a head coaching search sooner than they thought after their firing of Urban Meyer. Among other candidates, former Houston Texans head coach and current Alabama Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien is one of the candidates being eyed by the Jaguars for their head coaching vacancy. Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Jaguars are looking to interview the Crimson Tide coach after the National Championship game.

The Jaguars are pretty familiar with former Houston Texans head coach and current Alabama Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien. The Jaguars faced O'Brien twice a year when he was the leader of the Texans from 2014-2020.

O'Brien's Texans' stint ended horribly, as he took heat for his handling of the locker room, as well as his dealings as the general manager, most notably his trade of star wideout DeAndre Hopkins. O'Brien returned to the college game where he took a position as Alabama's offensive coordinator.

O'Brien has impressed with the Crimson Tide, as the Alabama offense ranks fifth in total yards and fourth in points per game, per ESPN. Alabama quarterback Bryce Young won the Heisman under the watchful eye of O'Brien, who was also the Crimson Tide's quarterbacks coach.

The Jaguars plan to interview O'Brien after Alabama plays Georgia in the National Championship game on Monday. One has to wonder whether it's smart for the Jaguars to turn back to the college game for their head coach, especially given the Urban Meyer experience, as well as their restless fan base.
