By now, everyone in the sports world knows that the Urban Meyer partnership with the Jacksonville Jaguars was a failed one. What people might not know, is just how enamored the Jaguars were with Meyer during the head coach hiring process. In an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, NFL reporter Peter Schrager revealed shocking details about Jacksonville's love affair with Urban Meyer during the hiring process.

That is shocking. The Jaguars were so in love with Urban Meyer that they almost didn't carry out other interviews. And, judging by what Schrager said, when they did conduct other interviews, it was almost as if they were going through the motions.

In the words of Schrager, Meyer was the first, second and third choice during the Jaguars' head coach hiring process. Meyer was the apple of Jacksonville's eye.

All of this makes perfect sense now. No wonder the Jaguars missed out on other solid coaching candidates, like the Los Angeles Chargers' Brandon Staley or the Philadelphia Eagles' Nick Sirianni. They were too caught up in their love affair for Urban Meyer.

As it turns out, the Jaguars were burnt by their love for Meyer, as the partnership came to an ugly end following reports of the former Ohio State head coach's shocking conduct while with Jacksonville.

The Jaguars would do well to avoid putting all their eggs in one basket during this head coach hiring process. They need to learn from their experience with Urban Meyer.
