Just days after it was announced that Trevor Lawrence would be the Week 1 starter for the Jacksonville Jaguars, they have now traded his backup Gardner Minshew to the Philadelphia Eagles for a sixth-round pick, via Adam Schefter:

Minshew Mania took center stage for the Jaguars in his rookie season, showing real promise as the team went 6-10. However, he struggled in 2020, going 1-7 as a starter, and was benched for the final two games of the campaign.

It's an interesting move, to say the least, because now he rolls into Philly as the immediate backup for Jalen Hurts with Joe Flacco likely retreating to the third-stringer. However, Minshew should have no problem getting reps, depending on how Hurts does.

In Minshew's stint with the Jaguars, he finished with a 62.5% completion rate, 5,530 yards while throwing for 37 TDs across two seasons. Although he doesn't have the strongest arm around, the 25-year-old is accurate and has more than enough ability to be a serviceable backup for the remainder of his NFL career.

Now, C.J. Beathard will serve as the second-stringer for the Jaguars behind Lawrence. He joined the team in March from the 49ers and has appeared in 19 games across the last four years for San Fran.

Best of luck to Gardner Minshew with the Eagles.
