The Jacksonville Jaguars have made a number of big-name signings in the front office and on the sidelines prior to the 2021 season. While head coach Urban Meyer might be the biggest name, the team recently announced its hiring of Amy Palcic as communications director.

Palcic was welcomed to the Jags on Twitter by Meyer himself:

“I’m thrilled to be able to announce a very important addition to the Jaguars. We’ve hired Amy Palcic to lead our communications team! Welcome to Jacksonville, Amy!”

The Houston Texans originally hired Palcic as the team’s vice president of communications but released her in November, causing a firestorm among national media outlets.

Adam Schefter of ESPN provided some context on the firing:

A vast array of media members responded in solidarity with Palcic, who was the only woman to assume full PR duties with an NFL team. Using coded language such as “cultural fit” certainly didn’t inspire confidence in the Texans’ decision to let Palcic go.

Now, the Jaguars are giving her a second chance by making her the only woman in charge of a communications department across the entire NFL.

The Jaguars went an NFL-worst 1-15 last season, so both Palcic and Meyer are pretty much getting a blank slate to begin their new gigs.

Thanks to the Jaguars' losses in the 2020 season, the team is in the driver’s seat for the best quarterbacks in the draft – Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields, and Zach Wilson – which means Palcic will have plenty to talk about in the near future.
