Last week was a frustrating one for Jared Cook, on and off the field. First, he injured his ankle and is expected to be out for the next four-to-six weeks. Then, while trying to enjoy chicken wings from Buffalo Wild Wings, Cook discovered a chicken head.
In response, PETA decided to try and persuade Cook to adopt a plant-based diet and give up chicken altogether, sending him a package of meat-free wings.
PETA released a press release directed at Cook, explaining why he should stop eating chicken. From Nina Mandell of For The Win:
“Chickens are sensitive, intelligent animals who have the same ability to feel pain as dogs, cats, and humans, and the one you discovered had likely been dumped into a fryer while still conscious,” PETA wrote in a note to the Packers tight end according to a press release. “Now, before you block that image from your mind, be a champion for both the Packers and chickens this season by leaving chickens off your plate next time you rush out for a meal.”
Apparently, Cook has been considering going vegetarian for awhile, long before the chicken head fiasco. But, he just love wings too much to completely do so. From ESPN's Rob Demovsky:
“Seeing as how it's one of my favorite foods, I don't see how I can give that up,” Cook said. “My wife is a vegetarian, and she's strongly encouraging I become one now.
“I think it's good advice. Eventually, I will become one, but not right now.”
