New York Jets tight end Chris Herndon is likely facing a two-game suspension for pleading guilty in January to driving while intoxicated, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.com.

Herndon is coming off of an impressive rookie campaign in which he played all 16 games and hauled in 39 receptions for 502 yards and four touchdowns.

Given that the Jets have had so much difficulty finding a good tight end over the last several years, Herndon's production during his first season certainly came as a pleasant surprise and could mark a big change in New York's offense going forward.

The 23-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Miami, was originally selected by the Jets in the fourth round (107th pick overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft.

He wasn't incredibly productive at Miami, with his best season coming during his senior campaign when he caught 40 passes for 477 yards and four scores.

Herndon first began receiving playing time during his sophomore year, when he snared 18 balls for 237 yards while reaching the end zone once. He then followed that up by registering 28 catches for 334 yards and a couple of touchdowns in his junior season.

The Jets won just four games this past season, resulting in the firing of head coach Todd Bowles after four years at the helm. New York then replaced him with former Miami Dolphins head coach Adam Gase.

Gang Green has not made the playoffs since the 2010-11 campaign and has posted just one winning season since then, going 10-6 during Bowles' first season in 2015.
