The New York Jets are hoping for a big season from young quarterback Zach Wilson in 2022 after a rather underwhelming rookie season from the 2021 No. 2 overall pick. While some fans are still questioning whether Wilson can truly be the leader that turns around the struggling franchise, GM Joe Douglas has cast aside any worries with his latest comments. When asked about Wilson's potential to achieve greatness in the league, Douglas was adamant the second-year quarterback would become a star.

Via the Michael Kay Show on ESPN, Douglas said “I 100% see greatness” in regards to Wilson's future. Of course, that could just be the GM trying to talk up his guy ahead of the season, but fans will surely be hoping there's at least some level of truth behind Douglas' comments.

Wilson got off to a horrid start to his NFL career in 2021, throwing just 4 touchdown passes and 9 interceptions through his first 6 games. An injury sidelined him for much of the middle of the season, but he returned after a four-game absence and finished the season on a high note. From Week 12-18, Wilson threw 5 touchdowns and just 2 interceptions, looking far more comfortable and confident under center, and providing optimism for the future for Jets fans.

Douglas isn't expressing any worries about Wilson ahead of the 2022 season, and hopefully, his words of confidence will be backed up with some improved play on the field. The Jets are expected to add some key weapons to the offense via the draft, which will certainly help Wilson along his development path.
