The New York Jets cut a third-round rookie in pass-rusher Jachai Polite on Saturday. Why? Because, while he's a talented player, he's been a headache to deal with. According to Pro Football Talk, he racked up over $100,000 in fines in his four months with the Jets.

Though he can afford it as a third-round pick with a $1.22 million signing bonus, that's not a good look for Polite. According to Mike Florio, the bulk of the fines came for tardiness and other issues that are currently undisclosed. His agent, Brian Mickler, declined to comment on the matter.

Once considered to be a top pass-rushing prospect in a stacked draft class, Polite fell from a probably first/early second pick to a third-round one despite tallying 11 sacks and 19.5 tackles for loss in his final year as a Florida Gator.

Polite bombed the NFL Combine, showing up overweight (258-pounds) and slow (4.84 second 40-time). Then word started to leak that he was equally as bad during interviews. He said teams “bashed” him in the interview process, while scouts left worrying about his work ethic.

Polite noted that his poor showing was due to a hamstring issue. That followed to his Flordia Pro-Day, where he did even worse. His work ethic was questioned in college too, as he missed the opening series of the first game of 2018 because he “failed to meet the Gator standard.”

The Jets, despite drafting him highly, clearly weren't impressed by what they saw.

After they waived him, he went unclaimed and found himself on the Seattle Seahawks practice squad.
