The New York Jets have not seen an All-Pro or even Pro Bowl season from running back Le'Veon Bell as they hoped for. Instead, the first-year Jet has played short of the expectations that come with a four-year, $52.5 million contract.

Before the trade deadline, rumors swirled of the Jets trying to move Bell. He hopes that they don't employ the same strategy in the offseason, as he wants to stay in the Big Apple.

“I wouldn’t have signed here for four years if I didn’t want to be here four years,” Bell said on Friday, via Rich Cimini of ESPN.

Bell's production is a far cry from what he once churned out with the Pittsburgh Steelers. On the season, the 28-year-old back has 1,173 scrimmage yards and four total touchdowns on 290 touches, good for 5.8 yards per touch.

The current Jets back did not expect his team to be perfect. New York stands at 5-9 on the year.

“When I did sign here, I didn't expect us to go 16-0, you know what I'm saying?” Bell said. “I knew it would be a process. I understand everything. We got a young quarterback, a whole group of guys coming in — new offensive coordinators, head coaches. … I understand what goes on. It's not like basketball. You can't take one or two guys and change a team.”

Bell has $13.5 million in guaranteed money in 2020. The Jets will not cut him due to the massive dead cap hit. Trading him remains a possibility, of course. Whether or not that will happen will be decided in the future.
