New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold said on an appearance on the Michael Kay Show that he plans to play on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills, per Rich Cimini of ESPN.

“The plan for me, personally, is to play (Sunday) … Barring something catastrophic, I feel like I'm ready to go,” Darnold said.

Darnold, who has missed the past three games due to a foot injury he suffered in Week 9 against the Miami Dolphins, practiced fully for the first time since suffering the injury, per Cimini. Although, Jets head coach Todd Bowles believes it’s still too early in the week to name Darnold as the starter.

Veteran quarterback Josh McCown has started the past three games in Darnold’s absence, all of which the Jets have lost. He went 17 of 30 for 126 yards with no touchdown and one interception last week against the Tennessee Titans. Although, he is dealing with a back injury and was limited in practice.

McCown started the Jets’ first meeting against the Bills in Week 10. He completed just 17 of 34 passes for 135 yards and threw two interceptions as the Jets were blown out, 41-10.

Darnold similarly struggled in the three games prior to his injury. He completed just 47 percent of his passes with two touchdowns and seven interceptions during that stretch.

If Darnold does make his much-anticipated return on Sunday, he’ll have a tough assignment against a  Bills defense which has been one of the best in the entire league this season. They’re ranked No. 3 in the league per DVOA by Football Outsiders.
