The New York Jets are still desperate for their first win of the 2019 NFL season. It seems they are doing what they can to get quarterback Sam Darnold in the mix as soon as possible.

Darnold was finally able to make his return to practice this week after being sidelined with mononucleosis. Head coach Adam Gase says the test results will determine his status for Week 5, via Eric Allen of the team's official website,

Sam Darnold looked good at practice Wednesday according to head coach Adam Gase.

‘Everything looked normal, but it's all going to be about the test results.'

Gase added that he was encouraged with what he saw from Darnold from a physical standpoint. Although there is plenty of optimism going on in New York, his status against the Philadelphia Eagles figures to be determined by the test results.

It is no secret that the Jets have gotten off to a frustrating start to the year and are in desperate need of a boost at this point in the season. Backup quarterback Trevor Siemian and Luke Falk have not been able to provide much stability under center in Darnold's absence. Gase is clearly hoping that his return will help to turn things around, however, they may want to exercise caution when it comes rushing him back before he is ready.

If Darnold is unable to go, the Jets will look to Falk to take over once again. This could very well be his last chance to prove himself as a viable No. 2 in New York.
