The New York Jets are expected to part ways with head coach Adam Gase following the conclusion of the team's game against the New England Patriots, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Although the move has reportedly been in the works for several weeks now, there is no immediate front-runner for the position, as the franchise will likely undergo a lengthy search process.

Hired less than two years ago following his tenure with the Miami Dolphins, Adam Gase joined the New York franchise with a reputation as an offensive mastermind. Looking to ensure the development of quarterback Sam Darnold, who was taken with the third overall selection in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Jets had hoped that pairing Darnold with Gase would ensure them stability at the quarterback position.

After going a combined 9-22 and overseeing the near-collapse of Darnold's career, it's fair to say that the move didn't quite work out as planned.

While the Jets currently find themselves on a two-game winning streak, the franchise and its fans arguably would have been better off ending the season winless. Entering their Week 15 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams–and on pace to become only the third franchise in NFL history to go 0-16–the Jets were assured the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 draft if they could complete the dubious record.

However, like most things for New York, the worst possible result was the one that came to fruition.

By earning victories over the Rams and Cleveland Browns, the Jets afforded the Jacksonville Jaguars to move past them in securing the top draft selection. With Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence expected to be taken with number one overall, the Jets seem likely to miss the opportunity once again to collect a franchise cornerstone.

While there are no easy answers in New York, at least the Jets will be rid of one of their problems in Gase.
