The New York Jets are set for some major changes as they approach the latter stages of a dreadful 2020 campaign. As the Jets continue to rack up losses in a bid to land Clemson Tigers quarterback Trevor Lawrence in the 2021 NFL Draft, head coach Adam Gase isn't long for the franchise.

Former NFL quarterback and sports analyst Boomer Esiason recently hinted on his podcast that former NFL head coach Bill Cowher could be the next man patrolling the sidelines for the Jets in the near future.

Via “Boomer & Gio” on WFAN:

“All I know is that yesterday, he was showing me and Nate (Burleson) film of him coaching on the sideline where he was mic’ed up, and we looked at each other like, ‘hmm, what does that mean?’” Esiason said. “Is he sending a message? I’ve worked with him for 14 years and I’ve never seen that.”

“He was saying to me yesterday, he’s the one that told me the Jets job is going to be really attractive, and they could hire whomever they want,” he added, “and he told me he loves Joe Douglas.”

Gang Green is currently in the second season of their partnership with Gase. The 42-year-old tactician previously led the Jets to a 7-9 record last season, but the franchise is now 0-12 this season after a comical last-second loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 13.

In the event that the Jets decide to clean house as expected (DC Gregg Williams is already out), Bill Cowher would certainly be a splashy hire to replace Gase. The Hall of Famer previously served as a special teams coach and defensive backs coach to the Cleveland Browns and as a defensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs before becoming the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1992 to 2006.

Cowher went 149-90-1 with the Steelers, going to two Super Bowls and winning Super Bowl XL. He also won Coach of the Year in his first season with the franchise.

Pairing an experienced head coach in Bill Cowher along with a promising prospect in Trevor Lawrence could potentially be the winning formula for the Jets to ultimately revive the franchise and return to relevance in the years to come.
