The New York Jets appeared to be well on their way to winning their first game of the season on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders, only for them to come up short once again.

With time winding down, Henry Ruggs caught a 46-yard touchdown that terminated New York's chances of winning their first game:

Things looked dire for the Raiders late in the game after failing to convert a fourth down inside New York's 10-yard line. The Jets could have ended the game by simply getting the first down with under two minutes remaining.

However, Las Vegas stopped them short of a first down, forcing New York to punt them the ball back. On third down, Derek Carr tossed a deep pass to Ruggs, who ran under the ball for a touchdown.

If you're the Raiders, having to defeat the Jets on a miraculous play in the waning seconds isn't exactly ideal. At the least, Las Vegas avoided being the first team to fall to the hapless Jets this season, and it's a huge win in terms of the playoff race. The Raiders are now 7-5 on the season and still firmly in the hunt, though they're still outside the playoff picture. A loss, though, probably would have doomed them.

On the other hand, Jets fans are likely excited to see that their hopes of landing Trevor Lawrence with the No. 1 pick in next year's draft are still alive and well.
