When you hear the name Joe Montana, you think success. The legendary quarterback played 16 seasons in the NFL and when he decided to put up his cleats, the winning didn't stop. In this article, we'll be taking a look at Joe Montana's net worth in 2021.

Joe Montana's net worth in 2021: $80 million

Joe Montana, Chiefs, 49ers

Wealthy Gorilla claims Montana's net worth is valued at $80 million, more than four times what he earned as an NFL quarterback. Safe to say, Joe definitely did not need one of his epic comebacks after his football career ended.

Outside broadcasting, television appearances, and  a few ventures into real estate, Montana has grown his net worth by primarily investing in companies with a couple of associates. Some bigger than others, the three-time Super Bowl MVP has proven himself a good decision maker off the football field by helping seed smaller companies.

A lot of professional athletes fall of financially when their playing days are over, whether it be because of failed investments or lavish lifestyles. Good to know that one of football's greatest still stayed golden even after calling it a career.

NFL years:

Joe Montana and the San Francisco 49ers had an unstoppable run in the 1980s that is still considered one of the greatest dynasties in professional football history. From 1981-1990, Joe Cool and his Niners made it to the postseason nine out of ten times and if it weren't for the strike-shortened 1982 season, they would have likely made it ten straight playoff appearances.

San Francisco would win seven NFC West division titles and make it to six Conference championship games. They would win four of those games and would ultimately win the Super Bowl each time they advanced. Montana would be named league MVP twice he and his all-world team would put the 49ers on the map and of course, he would be compensated for his heroic efforts.

Contracts:

According to spotrac.com, Montana signed a total of four contracts in his time in the league and here we will make take time to run down those deals to see how much money Golden Joe actually made in his Hall of Fame career.

Fresh out of college, the Notre Dame alum would sign his first contract in 1979. This deal was worth around $300,000 and tied him to the San Francisco franchise for the first three years of his career. This means that during the 49ers first Super Bowl season, the former National Champion was only being paid around $85,000. Thankfully, the team would reward him later that year by signing him to a new six-year deal that was worth an estimated $6,300,000 or an average of around a million dollars per year. Not a bad pay rise by any means.

Another three rings and an MVP later, the San Francisco franchise would lock down their superstar quarterback by offering him a then record-setting contract. The deal was valued at over $13,000,000 over four years, around $3,250,000 a year. This would be his last with the organization he helped establish in the NFL.

After a couple of injury-plagued seasons,  Montana was at crossroads as his team had found a gem in Steve Young, who proved he was more than ready to take over. Joe requested for a trade and he was sent to Kansas City to play for the Chiefs. Montana's contract with the Chiefs would be his last as a pro player and it was valued at $10,000,000 over a three-year span.

Overall, he would finish his playing years with earning around $22,500,000 from his player contracts.
