San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo opened up a season as a starter for the first time in his career this past year, but it didn't last very long, as Garoppolo tore his ACL after just three games.

However, Garoppolo is making sure he is ready for the 2019 campaign:

“Jimmy has worked his tail off,” said 49ers general manager John Lynch during an interview on the Murph and Mac Podcast on KNBR radio. “He’s doing everything that he can to try to make this. We challenged him. He challenged himself last year when he was missing, how do you still grow during this period if you’re not playing. Kyle (Shanahan) challenged him from the neck up. Physically, Jimmy is always going to work. He’s been tireless in his work sometimes to the point we’ve got to kick him out and say ‘Hey, go take some rest.’ He’s doing really, really well. He’s eager to get back on the field. He still has a lot of rehab left and he’s been very diligent. So, people will be very proud the way he’s attacked this and we’re looking forward to having him back.”

The general feeling is that Garoppolo will be able to participate in organized team activities in May.

San Francisco originally acquired the 27-year-old in a trade with the New England Patriots during the 2017 campaign. Garoppolo ended up starting five games for the Niners that season, throwing for 1,560 yards, seven touchdowns and five interceptions.

This past season, Garoppolo finished with 718 yards, five touchdowns and three picks in limited action.
