With EuroBasket competition now in its advanced stages, it has brought out even better performances from some of the top players in the tournament, including those who play in the NBA. One of them is New York Knicks big man Kristaps Porzingis, who has led Latvia to the quarterfinals after playing a solid game against Montenegro, finishing with 19 points, six rebounds, and three assists.

Porzingis was asked during the post-game press conference to discuss his experience competing in the competition. He also shared, via Eurohoops.net, that he's grown as a player in this offseason and he is happy to play, especially with his family around.

“I’m enjoying it a lot. I love basketball. I love that my family is here. It’s a little bit different than the NBA.”

“This summer I’ve also grown a lot as a player. I have different responsibilities with the Latvian NT, but I’ve improved my game this summer. That’s why I’m so excited what I’ve worked on.”

The 22-year-old is coming off a strong second season in the NBA where he averaged 18.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 2.0 blocks in 32.8 minutes per game. Despite all the off-court distractions the Knicks had, Porzingis remained professional and focused on his game.

If he can continue his strong showing in the tournament, it could work wonders for him next season in the NBA as it will definitely boost his confidence further. He is posed to receive an even bigger role with the Knicks, and start preparing to make him their franchise player whether they trade Carmelo Anthony or not.
