The injury to Kevin Knox came at a time when he had seemingly adjusted to the NBA level of play. New York Knicks head coach David Fizdale knows this and is frustrated by the way things have turned out.

In the final seconds of the first half against the L.A. Clippers on Sunday, Knox rolled his ankle and was subsequently assisted to the locker room. Per Marc Berman of the New York Post, Fizdale shared his thoughts on the unfortunate incident.

“He was playing really good basketball before he got hurt,’’ a frustrated Fizdale said. “That’s probably the most frustrating part of the injury.’’

Fizdale added that Knox — the ninth overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft — has been their go-to player. In addition, the game is already slowing down for the 19-year-old, a sign that he's already getting acclimated to a high level of basketball.

“He’s definitely making strides,’’ Fizdale said Sunday. “He’s our go-to guy — as crazy as that is. With all his ups and downs, he’s really handled this whole thing great. I’m starting to see real progression in how the game’s slowed down for him. He goes with the flow. He doesn’t get too high or low. He keeps plugging away with the same attitude every day and he listens. The kid — when it all slows down — will be a pretty good player.”

For the season, Knox is averaging 12.6 points per game and 4.3 rebounds. He has shown sparks of his infinite potential in his first year, including a 31-point performance against the Philadelphia 76ers last January. Like most young and talented players, consistency has always been the challenge. But with the guidance and trust Fizdale provides, it won't take long before Knox turns into a special and highly impactful player.
