Julius Randle's future as the lead star of the New York Knicks is dwindling. He has enjoyed a mediocre season following his stellar 2020-21 season and lengthy, expensive contract extension. With the rest of the Knicks roster also disappointing this season, a shake-up at the trade deadline seems imminent.

Randle is reportedly available for trade and the Knicks have a target in mind, the Sacramento Kings' De'Aaron Fox, as someone they could move him for. With the trade deadline approaching soon, New York will have a decision to make about Randle. Although nothing is certain, the noise around New York's star is rising in volume.

Prior to the Knicks' overtime loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, Randle dismissed the trade rumors surrounding him as gossip.

Although Fox would be a strong addition for the KNnicks, they may be reluctant to trade away Randle. Part of that may be. because his trade value is low. According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, rival executives don't see Randle as a valuable asset.

“Not now,’’ one NBA GM told The Post when asked if Randle has decent trade value.

“I think you could look at last season as more an anomaly,’’ one Western Conference personnel director said. “This season is more akin to his first six seasons.’’

“It’s a low trade value,’’ another NBA scout said. “He hasn’t come across as a good teammate. He has played selfish. His contract isn’t an issue. Perception is.’’

At 24-29, the Knicks are out of the playoff picture and don't have much hope that they can make it back.
