The New York Knicks will not extend a qualifying offer to guard Emmanuel Mudiay.

Per Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, Mudiay is now an unrestricted free agent.

Mudiay was the seventh overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft by the Denver Nuggets. He spent two and a half seasons with them and was later traded to the Knicks. An ankle injury sidelined him prior to the beginning of the 2018–2019 season.

But when he was cleared to play, the 6-foot-6 Congolese guard put up some impressive numbers including a career-high 34 points in a 126–124 overtime win over the Charlotte Hornets. A few days later, he chipped in 32 points, six rebounds and six assists in a 128–110 loss to the Phoenix Suns.

In his NBA career so far, the 22-year-old Mudiay is averaging 11.8 points per game, 4.2 assists, and 3.1 rebounds across 25.7 minutes. He's shooting at a 39.3 percent clip from the field and 32 percent from deep. Last season was his best campaign yet as he logged in 14.8 points and shot 44.6 percent from the field.

As of this writing, no one has expressed interest in Mudiay just yet but given his experience, he'll make a decent backup point guard. The Knicks, for their part, seem to be retooling their roster slowly and surely. They have cap space enough to accommodate two max players and will likely surround them with reliable role players.
